Duff in a class of his own at WOW 15th December 2013

Jamie "The Duffman" Duff was in a class of his own when he dominated Round 5 of the General Tyre War of the Wings Sprintcar Series at Ruapuna Speedway on Saturday evening. The 23 year old local totally dominated the 25 lap Feature lapping 12 of his fifteen rivals and was a massive 10 seconds ahead of second placed Jason Scott (Queenstown) with Nelson's Chris Gerard third, nearly a lap behind Duff.

Two weeks ago in Auckland Duff finished second behind American ace Donny Schatz and ahead of USA legend Sammy Swindell in the Sprintcar World Series and on current form will fancy his chances of a top three placing in the New Zealand Championship which will be raced in Cromwell early in the New Year, before the Sprintcar Summer Slam is contested at Ruapuna on the 17 and 18 January..

In Saturday night Duff was a cut above the rest of the field setting the fastest time of the evening at 13.1666 seconds on his way of winning the second heat of the night which included a breath taking inside pass on Ray Baughan on the Town bend to take the lead in the race which has started in spectacular fashion when Matt Honeywell rode a wheel when the green flag dropped sending Honeywell's machine on a wild roll onto the infield.

Duff had to work a little harder for his win in the third head as he carved his way from near the back of the field has he rolled of another series on mid 13 seconds laps has he worked his way in to second place and then dived inside race leader Scott as the two cars raced side by side into the Prison bend, Scott held on to second place with Honeywell coming home in third place.

Starting from the front row along side Scott Duff quickly took the lead in the Feature and was lapping cars by the fifth laps with interest then focusing on the minor placings with Gerard, who won the opening heat, holding out Scott for second place until the seventh lap, with Brent Gaudion finishing fourth overall from Greg Clemence and Daniel Anderson with former Black Cap, Nathan Astle in seventh place.

On other racing Nick Donaldson made a welcome return to the Midgetcar rank after a spectacular crash earlier in the season claiming a win and a third during the heats before claiming the Feature win from Glenn Everett and Dunedin's Gavin Wilkie.

Young Gun Liam McCoubrey had his best meeting since moving from the ¼ Midget class to the TQ class this season with his first Feature win as well as a win and a third in the heats. The bulk of the TQ drivers were away contesting the South Island title at Nelson which saw Jeremy Webb claim his third back to back title from Ben Gilmore and Kyle Glover.

Josh Walls took out the Modified Sprint Feature race from Jimmy Doyle with both drivers claiming a heat win. Visiting drivers Sam O'Callaghan and Matthew Anderson were the pick of the Six Shooter drivers with O'Callaghan taking out the Feature from Kris Jemmett and Anderson with the latter claiming a win and a third in the heats. Montana Jamieson continue her winning way in the ¼ Midget class with the eleven year old winning her fourth straight Feature win to back up a win and a third in the heats.
