Speedway for the last few years.

Despite initial concerns around security and safety the winter skids organised by Southern Car Culture and run at Ruapuna Speedway
for the first time was a success with an estimated 1000 spectators watching the 30 entrants performing on the purpose built skid pad
for prize money.
Ruapuna Speedway Club President Darren Nankivell was pleased with how the event was run and is now looking forward to another
possible event being run later in the year.

Glenn Everett is adamant he will be racing next season despite a massive TQ crash at Ellesmere Speedway earlier this year.
The former hard charging Sprintcar driver traded in the 850 horsepower Sprintcar for the 120 horsepower TQ and despite the massive power reduction Everett concedes the TQ punches well above its weight for speed and excitement.
What originally was suppose to be leisurely meeting sorting engine issues out turned to disaster when Everett rode a wheel in the turn three corner.
Several years of disappointing returns at the Speedway Promoters
Association conference came to an end today when Ruapuna was
allocated the 2011-12 New Zealand Sprint Car Championship, which
is sure to be the centre piece of the Ruapuna Speedway's 50th
anniversary.

Speedway in general lost a great friend when Selwyn Francis Burt passed away on Sunday May 16. Selwyn, a life member of the Christchurch Speedway Association was one of the founding members back in 1958.
With winter about to set in Ruapauna Speedway will be quiet for a few months but on saturday afternoon Ray Baughan and Matt Honeywell hired the track and gave there sponsors a chance to experience the thrill of driving a sprintcar.
