In his 18th year of racing Barry Low has taken the ultimate step and put himself in a sprintcar for the upcoming speedway season. Low who has competed in many car classes including Mini Stocks, Stockcars, Street Stocks, Mini Sprints and Midgets is looking forward to the season but concedes it will take a number of meetings to get use to the 800+ horsepower. His plan pre season is to make use of the three practice sessions before going hard on opening night.
With a new sponsor (A1 Radiators) on board Low is keen to impress and make a good showing in his rookie sprintcar season, helping him out with setup is former NZ Sprintcar Title holder Selwyn Everett and with his regular crew pitching in the South City Van Spares sprintcar is sure to win its fair share of races this year.

The modifiedsprint class continues the trend of bringing new faces to the Ruapuna Speedway scene and acting as a major stepping stone into other open-wheel classes.
This Summer most eyes will no doubt be focused on the high-profile arrival of former Black Cap cricketer Nathan Astle as he makes his Ruapuna debut,however he is not the only new face to both modifiedsprints and Ruapuna.

Inspite of many businesses raising prices Ruapuna Speedway continues to offer outstanding value for money with ticket prices remaining the same as last year.
Familys this year will receive slightly better value with the Family Pass allowing for up to four children to enter the stadium instead of previously just two and the season passes offer further savings if you make your purchase before the season starts.

The Naming rights raffle being sold by Darren and Jude is progressing
well with 2/3 of the tickets sold. The raffle draw has now been extended
until the 15th of September in order to sell the last remaining tickets.

The TQ class is looking very strong this year with a number of drivers returning to the class for 2010/11
Glen Everett will be returning this coming season after his spectacular crash at Ellesmere back in May with a new Raceworks Chassis. Glen is not the only driver returning this season with new equipment to raise the bench mark even higher, Gareth Nixon will also have a new chassis, but unsure on whom it will be from at this stage.
Ricky Brett will also be making appearances throughout the season in his new Harris 3NZ machine when not contesting the Western Springs Series in his car from last season for the new owner. Returning to the class after running a couple of seasons in the midgets is Philippa Melrose who will also be driving a Harris car. Ryan Chapman is also said to make a return to the class after a season off.
Rumour has it that Marty Kennett is building another car for this coming season. Tom Lumsden has decided to sell his Modified Sprint to concentrate on racing TQ’s.

Ruapuna Speedway picked up three prizes at this years New Zealand
Speedway Awards winning the 'Best Website' and 'Best Presented
Club Venue' categories while long time official Gavin Tavendale was
winner of the 'Best Official' Award.
Ruapuna also had finalists in the Best Promoted Club Venue, TQ
Driver of the Year (Glen Durie) and 'Announcer of the Year'
(AJ Batt & Andy Nisbet).
Club president Darren Nankivell was thrilled to see some long overdue
recognition for Ruapuna.

A draft speedway calendar has now been formed for the upcoming speedway season
the calendar still needs to be confirmed by Speedway NZ but is a good indication of whats on offer.
