Rain has delayed running of the  the final of the 57th running of the New Zealand Three Quarter Midget championship which was scheduled to be run at Ruapuna Speedway on Saturday evening after qualifying was held on Friday evening. Attempts to run the meeting on Sunday afternoon were also unsuccessful due to the weather. The final will now be staged on Thursday evening.

Friday's qualifying virtually went to form with only one major surprise among the non-qualifiers for tonight’s final, that being Dick Webb the former two time national TQ champ. Webb suffered from ignition problems in his opening heat which continued all night and failed to finish any of his three heats. The Christchurch driver finally managed to run the car at ‘full noise’ after the meeting and will now have to finish among the first three in the repercharge that will join the twenty-one drivers that have qualified for the final, which will be race over two points races will determine the grids for the 25 lap final.

Current champion, Shane O'Connor and former champion, Paul LeCren both from Auckland finished near the top of their groups has did local favourite's Ryan Stone and Ricky Brett.

The final will be decided over two points carrying heats which the will be used to determine the starting positions for the 25 lap final.
